Welcomed by the President of the Regulatory Authority for Energy, Waste, and Water, Prof. Athanasios Dagoumas, in Athens, the ELE WG convened to discuss updates to the Mediterranean Electricity Markets Observatory (2024 MEMO+ report).
The group reviewed the results of the questionnaire conducted at regional, sub-regional, and country-specific levels, and unveiled their preliminary conclusions, providing an overview of the installed capacity, energy mix, demand vs. generation data, infrastructure, and cross-border interconnections. Additional elements of the 2024 version, such as plans for cross-border interconnections, were also discussed.
The 2024 MEMO report is expected to be finalized and approved at the next MEDREG General Assembly in December.
The group also carried out an initial analysis of investments, infrastructure development, and the impact of the cross-border adjustment mechanism in the Mediterranean region.
An update on collaboration with external partners, support activities, and training was also provided.
The afternoon session was dedicated to a mini-workshop on smart meters and smart grid requirements, featuring case studies from France, Greece, Cyprus, and Jordan.
