MEDREG supports the International Confederation of Energy Regulators (ICER) in collecting articles for the 12th edition of the ICER Chronicle, a bi-annual publication thought to promote global dialogue and cooperation around energy regulatory issues, transcending regional and national boundaries. After the successful re-launch of the ICER Chronicle in 2021 offering a rebranded magazine with quality graphics and great storytelling, we are collecting contribution for the next edition of the Chronicle scheduled for July 2022, around the theme of “Deep Dive into Disruption”.
During the 20th CUS WG meeting, the activities planned for 2022 were discussed, which included the main deliverable on the "Update on technical and non-technical losses." Furthermore, the WG members discussed the activities to be held with the MEDREG's external partners, including a Trilateral Workshop with CEER and ECRB and a workshop on digitalisation and cybersecurity.
In their 31st meeting, the RES WG members discussed the activities planned in 2022, and in particular the main deliverable on the future role of renewable gases in the Mediterranean region. In addition, WG members addressed the national reforms for MEDREG members and the cooperation with external partners.
As the energy sector is undergoing a transformation towards a low-carbon economy, new technologies and digitalisation are offering opportunities to decarbonise the energy sector and empower consumers, bringing new challenges to the regulators.
Welcomed by the Albanian Energy Regulator (ERE) in Tirana on 9 March, MEDREG Presidency board held its 6th Presidency meeting to take stock of the latest completed deliverables of the Association and get acquainted with this Year’s Action Plan. MEDREG President Petrit Ahmeti welcomed MEDREG Director Hasan Ozkoc and Deputy Director Bardhi Hoxha at ERE premises. Permanent Vice-President Stefano Besseghini (ARERA, Italy), Vice-President Abdellatif Bardach (ANRE, Morocco) and Vice-President Karem Mahmoud (GASREG, Egypt) joined the meeting online.
On 24 February 2022 in London, the Office of Gas and Electricity Markets (Ofgem) of the United Kingdom and the National Electricity Regulatory Authority (ANRE) of the Kingdom of Morocco signed a Joint Statement of Intent to Cooperate, which aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two regulators.
Since the establishment of the Egyptian Gas Regulatory Authority GASREG in 2017, MEDREG has been continuously supporting its Egyptian gas member throughout the peer-to-peer sharing of experience and good practices, with the aim of reinforcing its technical and regulatory capacity as a leverage for the development of its gas market.
