MEDREG plans its report on infrastructure, smart grid case studies, and support activities on renewable energies in Algeria and Palestine

MEDREG’s Working Groups on Electricity (ELE WG) and on Renewable Energy Sources and Energy Efficiency (RES WG) met on 28 March 2018 in Paris. The groups discussed a methodology for Cost-Benefit Analysis and Cross-Border Cost Allocation for the Mediterranean infrastructure projects; support activities to boost renewable energies in Algeria and Palestine and a compilation of national case studies to promote best practices on smart grids.

MEDREG contributed, exchanged views and benefited from the latest regulatory developments at the seventh WFER

Participating in the seventh World Forum on Energy Regulation (WFER) between 20 and 23 March 2018 in Cancùn, MEDREG contributed and exchanged views on the latest regulatory developments, and provided insights of the energy markets in the Mediterranean countries. We also benefited from the sessions on the opportunities and challenges faced by the energy sector around the themes of innovation, empowered consumers, dynamic markets and sustainable energy developments along with international fellow energy regulators.

Regulators of emerging energy markets enhance cooperation

On 21 March 201, on the occasion of the VII World Forum on Energy Regulation taking place in Cancùn, energy regulatory Associations from developing regions of Africa, the Mediterranean, Central and South America, Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East and Asia signed a cooperation agreement to put their resources in common and jointly work on energy topics of common interest.

Meeting in Milan on 13 March 2018 back-to-back with the Institutional Working Group, the Communication Officers (COs) Network took stock of the progress made in the way MEDREG communicates. On 13 March 2018, the Institutional Working Group (INS WG) met in Milan to discuss the ongoing and programmed activities to support national reforms, acknowledging the progress of several support activities programmed for 2018, which are well under way.

New report on RES market in MEDREG countries

The report provides an overview of the Renewable Energy Sources (RES) national situation in 15 MEDREG members and draws general trends in terms of the increase of RES generation, technology mix, CO2 emissions from electricity generation as well as carbon intensity.

MEDREG is making progress on disconnection procedures, dispute settlement and consumer awareness

Meeting in Vienna on 22 February 2018, MEDREG’s Consumer Working Group made progress on its disconnection procedures survey; planned its support to the Israeli gas member on domestic household gas consumer connections procedures; and worked together with the Energy Community on complaint handling, dispute settlement and consumer awareness.
