Energy consumers in the Mediterranean and Eastern regions: status review of complaint handling and dispute settlement


MEDREG and the Energy Community Regulatory Board (ECRB) joined forces to review the procedures available to energy consumers to handle complaints and settle disputes. The two organisations also drew recommendations. Based on a survey answered by 19 members from MEDREG and ECRB, the report reveals that regardless of the level of customers’ protection, consumers’ protection is gaining a growing interest.

GasReg welcomes MEDREG in Cairo to discuss cooperation and support activities


On 17 December in Cairo, the Gas Regulatory Authority (GasReg) headed by Eng. Karem Mahmoud, Executive Chairman, welcomed and Mr. Hasan Ozkoc, MEDREG Deputy Secretary General. Based on the cooperation protocol between the two organisations, the meeting discussed and identified support activities to enhance the work power of GasReg in performing its mandated role as provided in the Gas Law and its Executive Regulation.

Energy regulators across Europe and the Eastern and Mediterranean region sign cooperation arrangement

A signing ceremony held in Vienna on 11 December brought together the Presidents of three regional associations of energy regulatory authorities. Presidents Garrett Blaney of CEER, Giorgi Pangani of the ECRB and Gülefşan Demirbaş of MEDREG signed a Cooperation Arrangement that will strengthen regulatory cooperation between energy regulators across Europe through to the Mediterranean, South East Europe and Black Sea regions.

Mediterranean and Eastern European Regulators get trained to monitor electricity markets


It is with the aim of supporting the regulators in supervising the complex process of monitoring the market and calculating the cost of generation that MEDREG, together with the Energy Regulators Regional Association (ERRA), organised a joint training on electricity Market Monitoring Tools in Istanbul on 3-5 December.

The Turkish Energy Regulator takes on the MEDREG Presidency with the election of Gülefşan Demirbaş


Gathered on 29 November in Istanbul for the organisation’s 26th General Assembly, MEDREG Members elected their new President Mrs. Gülefşan Demirbaş, Head of the Strategy Development Department at the Turkish Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA). She will be supported by three Vice-Presidents, Mr. Petrit Ahmeti (ERE, Albania) Mrs. Christine Chauvet (CRE, France) and Mr. Stefano Besseghini (ARERA, Italy). The new Board expressed its willingness to give a new impulse to MEDREG’s strategy and voiced their common ambition to support regulators, finding concrete and mutual solutions to the problems they face.

Regional Associations of Emerging Markets gathered in their 7th High-Level Meeting in Istanbul


On 30 November, this yearly high-level roundtable meeting for representatives of regulatory association from emerging economies saw the participation of ARIAE, ERERA, ERRA, MEDREG, who exchanged on the latest developments in the associations' activities and the new developments of regulation in their respective countries.

Optimisation of the infrastructure, RES auctioning and smart grids are at the heart of MEDREG’s work on electricity and Renewable



Kindly hosted by the Spanish Energy Regulatory Commission (CNMC), MEDREG’s Electricity (ELE) and Renewable (RES) Working Groups met on 18 October in Madrid, gathering 19 participants from Albania, Cyprus, Egypt, France, Greece, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Portugal and Spain.
MEDREG is currently working on a methodology for Cost-Benefit Analysis (CBA) and Cross-Border Cost Allocation (CBCA) for the Mediterranean infrastructure projects, in close cooperation with Med-TSO.
