Algeri
On 8 May, MEDREG President Mr. Santos met the President of the Algerian Electricity and Gas Regulation Commission (CREG), Mr Choual, with the aim to strengthen the current cooperation and to support energy regulatory reforms in Algeria. Exchanging with Mr Choual, Mr. Santos highlighted the importance of close collaboration among MEDREG members. He indicated that thanks to the European Union’s continuous financial and political support, MEDREG had significantly improved its financial and technical capacity to further promote and maintain regulatory reforms in its member countries. He explained the various tailor-made tools that the organisation offers such as workshops, exchange programmes and specific reports based on the members' needs and requirements. Mr Choual welcomed MEDREG’s visit and the proposed assistance. CREG reiterated its interest in receiving support from MEDREG to establish a methodology to evaluate renewable energy prices resulting from tenders and auctions in Algeria. This support will likely take the form of a workshop in autumn 2018. In addition, CREG indicated that they would be keen to receive support in the drafting of new secondary legislation and in the organisation of a TAIEX. While Mr Santos expressed his appreciation to CREG for its active and leading role in MEDREG's working groups, Mr Choual committed CREG to become more active in MEDREG’s activities.
